After a period of rather extensive hibernation, we are pleased to invite you to the first SWINC Reading Group of 2016!
For this first meeting, we are delighted to welcome Nicoletta Asciuto to lead our session. Nicoletta is currently a postdoctoral fellow at IASH, and her project looks at light technologies in Scottish poetry 1880-1925. You will find links to the reading for the session just below in this email- Nicoletta has indicated that these are links to excerpts of the poems, but you are of course more than welcome to read the poems in their entirety, should you so choose!
– James Thomson (B. V.), The City of Dreadful Night
– John Davidson, ‘Fleet Street’ (ideally at least up to ‘Celestial jewelled with its dazzling fault.’ – end of 4th stanza, but if people can read the whole poem, which is about 10 pages, that would be great)
– Robert Louis Stevenson, ‘The Lamplighter’ (from Child’s Garden of Verses)
The Reading Group will take place on Tuesday 9th February at 4.30pm, in Room 1.3, 24 Buccleuch Place.
